Weighing the Claims of Dietary Weight Loss Supplements for Both Women and Men Also

The tried and tested method for effective weight loss revolve simply around eating healthy, cutting calories and being physically active. All of which will likely involve drastically changing your lifestyle from being a junk gobbling couch potato to a health-conscious guru. 

But if the increasing demand of dietary meal replacement for weight loss means anything it’s this; that more than 60% obese adults in the United States all agree that effectively changing one’s lifestyle, just to shed some pounds, isn’t easy.  

So, they look for alternatives. Are these alternatives safe though? And are they as effective as advertised? Because despite the $2.1 billion spent every year by Americans on dietary supplements for weight loss, the obesity rates in the country are still staggeringly high, at two-thirds of the population for adults and one third for kids. 

For that, it is important to choose a perfect Weight Loss Supplements. You can try 310 meal replacement or any other meal replacement products which are most demanding in the market at this present time. 

Hence reading onwards, you’ll be seeing some of the active ingredients in some of these dietary supplements, their purported weight loss claims, their efficacy, and safety. Note that some of these supplements contain several ingredients, which while effective alone, work differently when mixed with other ingredients.  

Bitter Orange 

You’ll hardly find supplements without some form of bitter orange in them because it became a substitute for ephedrine alkaloids, a substance banned by the FDA over a decade ago. Bitter Orange is thought to mildly suppress one’s appetite and increase your body’s metabolism in resting state. 

Effectiveness & Safety: because bitter orange is almost always present in weight loss supplements for women and men, it’s hard to attribute gains caused by perhaps other ingredients to bitter orange alone. Moreover, consuming it alone has a lot of side effects like chest pain, elevated heart rates and even some types of stroke. 

Bottom line: While most supplements contain bitter orange, they don’t usually contain enough to be effective on their own. So, supplements containing bitter orange are usually relying on another substance for meal replacement.  

African Mango 

This native west African mango’s seed’s kernel contains an extract that has been hypothesized to promote weight loss by inhibiting abiogenesis (for the science-impaired, that’s the stuff responsible for tissue mass in obese people). It’s also been shown to reduce cholesterol in the body. 

Effectiveness & Safety: some studies have shown a significant effect of the African mango’s seed extract as participants weighed less than those on placebos. Of course, this isn’t conclusive, as the sample size was small so more tastings need to be observed in humans. With regards to safety, there have been no adverse effects observed in rats taking the extract. But people with chronic kidney diseases had renal failure, so consult your doctor before taking supplements containing this extract.  

Bottom line: Supplements like nutrition shakes containing African Mango seed extract could be effective if the other active ingredients in the shake do not work against it.  

Beta-Glucans 

You’ll find beta-glucans in yeasts, cereal grains (like oats and barley). They’re soluble fibers, so, fill you up quickly, while suppressing your appetite. Cool. 

Effectiveness & Safety: unfortunately, trials on the effectiveness of beta-glucans show virtually no changes in obese people’s weight loss goals. 

Bottom line: Despite not having effects on weight loss, its ability to suppress appetite and mimic satiety can keep you from gaining extra weight since you’ll be less likely to eat everything you come across.  

Green Coffee Bean Extract 

Coffee seeds are actually green until they’re roasted. And the green coffee beans have high levels of chlorogenic acid, a substance that inhibits fat accumulation in both humans and mice. It also modulates glucose absorption, and of course, it contains caffeine (found in almost all supplements). 

Effectiveness & Safety: several studies have shown a lot of benefits of the green tea extract, even though their research methodologies have been questioned. But it is considered a relatively safe substance to use in dietary supplements for weight loss even though some headaches and urinary tract infections have been observed. 

Bottom line: You’ll probably be unable to escape some form of coffee beans in supplements. Green Coffee beans are just a more concentrated variety of the usual caffeine extracted from roasted beans.  

General Safety Concerns

Like all supplements, care must be taken when consuming supplements for weight loss, as they can interact with prescription drugs. Besides, some of the ingredients tested haven’t undergone rigorous testing over a wide sample of people, for long periods of time. So, beware of firms advertising “magic diet pills” as they could be fraudulent. 

Again. The most sensible approach will be to make a sensible lifestyle change, eating healthy, exercising and such. If that’s too tough, incorporate some sensible supplements like nutrient shakes, maybe once a day. Just don’t substitute healthy eating for some “too good to be true” pill.
